Recently the kids have been looking at our old blogs and love to see the pictures and videos in that format so we decided to try posting on the blog again. It is more fun to read and remember that way!
We spent the weekend up at Grandma and Grandpa Lillywhite's house in Laketown for "hiking season" as we call it. (Since we never get a deer) We all had a great time whether or not we were hunting or hanging out at Grandpa's house.
Koben and Ava had fun dressing up with Grandma's many costumes. Koben is a photographer or a cheesy tourist....whichever. Ava looks a whole lot like Amy's granny when she dressed up like this.
Fall is great time to be in Laketown! Ava helped grandma make apple pies and pumpkin pies. They were so tasty! Thanks Grandma! The last couple of years when we have been up for the hunt we have also used grandpa's apple juicing machine to make apple juice. It is the best juice and we loved picking the apples walking directly over to the juicer, shredding them up and squishing them to get the freshest, sweetest and tastiest juice ever!
Of course we went hunting while we were up there. The weather was perfect for being out, there were actually a few deer around this year. Dad got to shoot at a buck but wasn't quite able to get it.
We visited old Ephraim's Grave while we were out. Fred and I were talking about the actual story behind it and thought there are quite a few tall tales, so here's a link to the story if you want to read the real story. The real Old Ephraim Story
Also, just so you know Vance isn't telling a tall tale when he tells you he got stung twice by the same bee! He was walking behind Fred and I and we walked past an area that had quite a few bees. Fred looked back at Vance and said: "Watch out for bees!" Right at that moment Vance screamed and said a bee had stung him. When I looked back, I could see that a small tree that we had just walked past was swinging like it had just snapped back in his face or something so I thought maybe that was what he felt. He was really upset so we stopped and tried to calm him down and when we sat a minute he screamed again and said he had been stung on his side under his shirt! We pulled his coat and shirt off as fast as we could and sure enough a bee had stung his side and we found it in his shirt. So it must have stung his ear and then fallen down his shirt when he swatted at it. Poor Guy! We felt so bad that we didn't believe him at first.
